The power of self-suggestion

Let's say you dislike eating papaya. Then try this: Repeat "I like eating papaya" 30 times a day. Do that for 5 years. Would you manage to convince yourself to like eating papaya? Most likely you can, less likely you can't.

Some people call this psycho-yourself, or auto-suggestion, or simply manipulating the mind. It is powerful. WhatsApp viral messages can use this technique to change the way a person thinks. Advertisers use this technique to sell their products.

Awareness is our best defence.

Along life's journey, faith is required. Faith in ourselves, faith in others, faith in God and the Divine.

My 'journey of faith' started while I was in St Andrew's School at around the age of 14. I was confronted by Jesus Christ, the same way He confronted Simon Peter. He asked: "Who do you say I am?"

Peter had already been with Jesus for 3 years, so he could answer without hesitation, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God". Matt 16:13-16.

But I could not answer Jesus' question immediately. I was then only in Secondary Two. For the next 5 years, I searched, I questioned, I resisted the idea that Jesus was the Son of God. I had no problem believing in God the Father, the God of gods. I only had problem believing in Jesus, who goes around claiming to be the Son of God.

Finally, after 5 years of searching, I took the step of faith -- I submitted myself to Jesus, but told Him that He had to reveal more of Himself to me.

If you have not started your journey of faith, you will not be able to answer Jesus' question too.

Don't be afraid to start on your journey of faith. Everybody have to travel this path. In months or years to come, you will find an answer to Jesus' question too.
