1 Samuel Chapter 1: Godly Assurance. Hannah's joy.

"Go in peace." Eli said, "and may the God of Israel give you what you have asked him for." 1Sam 1:17.

If we believe in God, and we pray to God, then why we are still anxious after we pray?

It's because we do not know whether God agree with our prayer. We are not sure.

Once we are assured that we are praying according to God's will, we will not be anxious anymore.

That was what happened to Hannah. She was deeply distressed and prayed for a son. The priest Eli assured her that "God give you what you have asked Him for". Assured, she went away, no longer sad.

If we are not assured, we will remain miserable and anxious. So how and where to find God's assurance?

Well. Know God. Read the Bible. The answer is there. The Holy Spirit speaks through the written words.

Along life's journey, faith is required. Faith in ourselves, faith in others, faith in God and the Divine.

My 'journey of faith' started while I was in St Andrew's School at around the age of 14. I was confronted by Jesus Christ, the same way He confronted Simon Peter. He asked: "Who do you say I am?"

Peter had already been with Jesus for 3 years, so he could answer without hesitation, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God". Matt 16:13-16.

But I could not answer Jesus' question immediately. I was then only in Secondary Two. For the next 5 years, I searched, I questioned, I resisted the idea that Jesus was the Son of God. I had no problem believing in God the Father, the God of gods. I only had problem believing in Jesus, who goes around claiming to be the Son of God.

Finally, after 5 years of searching, I took the step of faith -- I submitted myself to Jesus, but told Him that He had to reveal more of Himself to me.

If you have not started your journey of faith, you will not be able to answer Jesus' question too.

Don't be afraid to start on your journey of faith. Everybody have to travel this path. In months or years to come, you will find an answer to Jesus' question too.
